Hundreds of Kettering students who face food insecurity rely on school-provided meals. For these students, weekends can mean hunger.
KBP provides at-risk students with food for the weekend when school breakfasts and lunches are not available.
Hungry children are more likely to:
• Need special education classes • Receive mental health help
• Struggle to focus and learn • Repeat a grade
With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners, KBP works to ensure that all Kettering students can learn and thrive.
42% of school-age children in Kettering, Ohio, qualify for free or reduced lunches.
More than 600 students receive nutritious supplemental food for the weekend through the Kettering Backpack Program.
School counselors identify the students who need weekend food and discreetly place it in their backpacks each Friday so participating students remain anonymous.
KBP is available to 19 schools in Kettering, including all public, parochial, and charter schools.
